 Abstract

As the intensive care techniques improve, more and more patients are
brought back to life from the frontier of clinical death. Some of
them tell about their significantly intense experience when they seem
to live and function outside their body. First, we shall present the
various stages of a near death experience (NDE). We shall particularly
explain why the observed phenomena during an NDE are troubling and
destabilizing for the adepts of certain religions. Second, we shall
analyze and interpret these phenomena according to different points of
view. We then discuss life in the hereafter and exhibit some of its
properties. In this paper we shall also raise the issue of
premonitory dreams which constitute a mystery for scientists.

 Looking forward to your response.

 Best regards,

SECTION V: Additional Comments Please add any additional comments (including comments/suggestions regarding online supplementary materials, if any). Also, some English corrections should be done. GENERAL COMMENT The Experience on the Brink of Death and the Hereafter: The Verdict is a well-researched Paper that is a valuable addition to knowledge of the phenomena of ‘Near Death Experiences’ and ‘Death’. This paper presents solid evidence from the Quran and Hadith of the Islamic perspective to death as being the first stage of transition to the Eternal Hereafter. ____________________________________________________________________________________ RECOMMENDED AREAS FOR FURTHER DEVELOPMENT OF THE PAPER Suggested by Dr Umar Azam   Please use Islamic dreams research papers on: www.dr-umar-azam.com and www.dr-umar-azam.co.uk 1] The  Angel of Death, Izrael A.S. takes the souls of living creatures at the time of death.  This Angel appears in a frightening form or a merciful form to humans, depending on belief.  Did any NDE  respondent ever see this Angel , or would seeing the Angel only occur in the point of no-return in the ephemeral life? 2] Munkar and Nakir are the Recording Angels [the Scribes] who write down the good and bad deeds of people.  How does this notion fit in with the concept of the second part of the soul being ‘an archive of deeds’? 3] Can the NDE experiences of non-Muslims  [mainly Christians?] be taken as the absolute truth that supports the Islamic concept of death being the first stage of the Hereafter? 4] As well as meeting relatives, it is said that martyrs and others who have died in the way of Allah are greeted by Hur [celestial maidens] and the Angel of Death appears in a merciful form. 5] The NDE experiences of certain Muslims have indicated that they automatically knew the Arabic language near the time of death [even if they did not know it in the world] because the language of the Hereafter is Arabic.  6] Everything is predestined but mankind is responsible for actions through the use of free will.  Allah knew those actions in advance, hence they were predestined. 7] The soul is made of Nur [Light] but when man does evil, such wrongdoing is due to being tempted by Satan.  Sinning does not mean that the soul cannot be made of light. 8] An NDE may be a temporary mental hallucination and not necessarily evidence of life after death, since a test of belief does not require concrete proof or it wouldn’t be a test! 9] There is a theory that man has two sould – Ruh Al-Hayyah [the soul of Life] and Ruh al-Yakzah [the soul of consciousness].  It is not the soul of life that leaves the body during sleep or the sleeper would be clinically dead!  Rather, it is Ruh al-Yakzah that wanders around and returns to the body at the time of consciousness. 10] In the NDEs  of non-Muslims, many feel an absolute peace.  This is unlikely in the event of actual death when  Izrail A.S. is likely to come in a frightening form.  11] On a personal not, my own father [Allah grant him salvation] had an NDE around the year 2004 and he heard the flapping of the wings of angels [not the ‘vision of a tunnel’].  He recovered and then passed away a year or so later.
MINOR TYPOGRAPHICAL ERRORS A. Comma missing on p. 3 in 2.1. A Typical NDE Scenario – 5th line: …in a disturbing, emotional state…’ B. Unnecessary spaces 6th line from the bottom on p. 11: …………..by the fact that witnesses…..’ C. Unnecessary spaces 2nd line from the bottom on p. 21 ‘: in fact, it is nothing….’ D. Incorrect word 3rd line from the bottom on p. 33: Should be: ‘…we may cite…..’ E.  Incorrect word on line 16 on p. 38 Should be: ‘renowned’ F. Incorrect word on line 24 on p. 38 Should be: ‘Oft-Forbearing’
